BHG - Invested in Cyber Protection

By Fred Hamilton

The month of October carries significant meaning for BHG Financial and a lot of that is because it’s Cyber Security Awareness month. As a firm committed to transparency, Cyber Security Awareness month is the perfect time for sharing all the ways BHG Financial secures its ecosystems from fraud and criminal activity. And it all starts in our own backyard.

Topping the list? Employee education and communication.

At BHG, we’re teaching employees long-term skills to keep them cybersafe in all parts of their lives. Take the BHG Information Security Cyber Bulletin—a monthly, collaborative collection of Information Security Team highlights. With resources covering modern-day threats against BHG technology as well as personal employee devices the bulletin is just one of the ways IT is checking in with employees and spreading the word on cyber safety.

Next up is BHG’s commitment to providing associates with monthly security awareness trainings. These courses speak to handling sensitive data, appropriate use of Internet and social media, reporting vulnerabilities, and tips to avoid manipulative tactics criminals use to trick employees into divulging confidential information.

What’s more? During the first week of October, BHG colleagues up their exposure to useful information on the latest online swindles and scams, password strategies, phishing tactics, and privacy versus security.

As part of the firms October 2022 Cybersecurity Awareness Week, colleagues participated in a week-long agenda packed with custom seminars, roundtables, Q&A sessions, cybersecurity trivia, and more, all presented by BHG’s suite of tech-savvy titans. The Information Security team also hosted virtual learning and manned a booth for Syracuse employees to stop by and spin the InfoSec wheel.

Organizational Excellence

BHG is integrating all aspects of cybersecurity from the top of the business to the bottom, beginning to end, in the most cohesive way possible.

How? BHG employs firewall and encryption technology that protects our Internet connections and Wi-Fi networks. Further, BHG computers have antivirus and anti-spyware software installed and updated automatically and require complex passwords that are changed regularly. Another step taken? We back up critical information and data on a regular basis and store the backups securely offsite.

As one of the world’s leading companies working to keep data and electronic assets safe among a growing threat from hackers, BHG’s dedication to cybersecurity has been recognized with a 2022 Fortress Cyber Security Award for organizational excellence.

And the accolades don’t stop there. BHG is a stickler for standards.

The firm recently completed its SOC 2® Type 2 examination in accordance with American Institute of Certified Public Accountants standards, SOC for Service Organizations, which ensures that the firm is safeguarding customer data throughout its services and is meeting standards for strong operational effectiveness.

With a keen focus on increasing both technological innovations and ensuring best practices in the evolving world of information security, BHG Financials’ Information Security Program has grown exponentially over the years. For example, in 2017, BHG’s Information Technology department was a group of 1. Today, the department is 26 strong, and growing.

Through its significant investment in people and resources, BHG Financial remains committed to data security as the company’s top priority.
